Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States. It comes in many forms. They can have any of these blemishes, blackheads, whiteheads, pustules (pimples), papules, cysts, and nodules. It can appear on the face, back, chest, neck, shoulders, and upper arms. Without treatment, permanent scars and dark spots can appear on the skin as the acne clears up.
What is Acne?
Acne is the clogging of skin pores beginning with dead skin cells. Dead skin cells rise to the surface of the pore and then the body sheds the cells. However, when the body begins to make a lot of oil, this keeps the skin from drying out. The oil makes it so the dead skin cells can stick together inside the pore causing a clog instead of rising to the surface.
